In 2013, Russia ranked 155th out of 162 possible in terms of the Global Peacefulness Index. Experts note that such a deplorable figure is due to the increase in arms exports and the terrorist situation.

The Global Peace Index is calculated annually since 2007. The index takes into account both internal parameters (for example, crime rate) and external (international relations, arms costs). Today we offer to study the top ten countries that led Rating of the most peace-loving countries in 2013.

10. Switzerland

In 2010, this alpine republic ranked 16th in the ranking, 3 years later it was already in the top ten. No wonder Switzerland in 2012 led our Top 10 countries with a low crime rate.

9. Finland

The country did not fall into the leading positions in the top ten only because of the impressive number of its own armed forces, as well as sometimes demonstrations, which do not always end peacefully.

8. Slovenia

Experts are somewhat confused by the tense relations of Slovenia with neighboring countries, as well as the imperfect situation with the crime rate. But overall, this country is the most peaceful of the former Yugoslav republics.

7. Ireland

In last year’s ranking, Ireland was not in the top ten. However, this year, thanks to a declining crime rate and a decrease in internal social tension, experts placed the Emerald Island at 7th position.

6. Austria

Experts criticize the high number of armed forces of the country. But overall, the low crime rate, social stability and foreign policy situation contribute to the fact that Austria has a leading position in the ranking of peacefulness.

5. Japan

Among the negative factors, analysts note the swollen Japanese army and rather tense relations with neighbors. But inside the country there is stability, order and security.

4. Canada

In 2010, Canada was only 14th in the ranking. Today this country is the most peaceful in the territory of both Americas. Experts note a low crime rate and the absence of social tension.

3. New Zealand

In 2009 and 2010, this state led the rating of the most peace-loving, and, quite rightly. The only thing that did not allow the country to remain the leader in the top ten was the size of the armed forces that has grown in recent years.

2. Denmark

Denmark is on the same position as New Zealand in terms of peace index. Like the other dozens of participants, only the size of the Danish army earned criticism. The crime rate and indicator of social tension are among the lowest in the world.

1. Iceland

Thanks to its small army, low crime rate, calm domestic political situation and stable foreign policy, Iceland was recognized in 2013 the most peace-loving country in the world.
