On the eve of September 1 and the school season, the Levada Center analysts asked what subjects the residents of the Russian Federation consider obligatory, necessary and important for the school.
The survey involved 1,600 people in 137 settlements in 48 regions of the country. As a result, it turned out that respondents least of all like the basics of religion and secular ethics - only 5% spoke for them. It is interesting that along with this, 89% of respondents believe that the school should instill in children a love for the motherland, and 85% should also engage in spiritual and moral education.

10. First Aid Skills and Social Sciences
The humanities in the eyes of the inhabitants of Russia, apparently, are considered unimportant. Social science with sociology, economics and political science, although they entered the top 10 most needed subjects at school, but took the last place along with medical care skills. For both subjects an equal number of respondents spoke out - 9%.
9. Geography
One of the most ancient sciences, which originated in the ancient era, is not very popular among Russians - only 10% spoke out for its importance in school education.
8. Labor education
Both geography and social sciences bypassed labor education by a few percent margin. Sociology is sociology, and the button must be able to be sewn - 13% of the respondents think so.
7. Physical education and sport
18% of respondents believe that the school should help fill up the deficit of active movement created by, among other things, the increased educational load.
6. Natural sciences
During the reform of school education in Russia, natural sciences have suffered the most. A change in the learning model (from linear to concentric), final exams in test form, reduced hours, and equipment difficulties (which is extremely important for chemistry, physics and biology) led to a decline in the prestige of the once popular field of knowledge among parents and students in the USSR. For natural sciences, 21% of the respondents spoke in favor.
5. Foreign languages
They open the first five of the rating of the most important school subjects. Without English, nowhere is now, and 27% of respondents agree with this.
4. Literature
32% of respondents consider it necessary for students to know the texts that in the history of Russia and the world have the greatest cultural significance. In addition to purely reader and general educational interest, the role of entering the culture, comprehending its plots, images and motives, and, as a result, the very patriotic and spiritual-moral upbringing, which the majority of those surveyed, also play a role in.
3. History
This school subject has been approved by 33% of respondents. In general, the history of the majority of former students retained the warmest memories - according to the results of polls of the FOM, 76% of respondents liked this subject. The difficulty with the story is that this is one of the disciplines in which much depends on the personality of the teacher. The second problem is the abundance of ideological manipulations in the presentation of the material and the strong ideological nature of the subject.
2. Mathematics
With a significant margin of 20%, mathematics is ahead of history - 53% of the respondents favor its importance, necessity and usefulness. The number of hours allotted to math weekly clearly speaks of the importance of the subject in the eyes of teachers, their pupils, and parents. Although, oddly enough, the whole importance of mathematics miraculously disappears upon admission to a university (if it is not specialized, of course). And in the future, the first thing that can come in handy is the ability to count money while paying in a supermarket.
1. Russian language
And in the first place in the top 10 most important school subjects, according to respondents, was the Russian language. In the ranking, he leads with a huge margin. 68% spoke in favor of the great and powerful. And no wonder - this is the only thing that for the whole life will determine the ability to communicate, understand the other and convey your point of view.
