2017 is the first year when cars with an automatic transmission exceeded the performance of “mechanics” in terms of sales. Although the excess is still insignificant (4.1%), a start has been made. And the experts of the Avtostat agency decided to name the winners, the top 10 popular cars with automatic transmission in the vastness of our country.
In addition to the classic automatic transmissions (aka automatic transmissions), the list also includes variator and robotic transmissions. And in all, over the months since the beginning of 2017, 566.4 thousand cars with automatic transmission were sold. This exceeds last year's figure by 2.5%.
10. Mazda CX-5
Opens the ranking of the most popular cars with automatic transmission Mazda CX-5. This compact crossover is the best-selling type of car at the moment. And in the summer of 2017, deliveries to Russia of a new, second generation CX-5 began, which, apparently, played a role in increasing sales by 15.6% compared to 2016. In total, since January 2017, 12.8 thousand cars of this brand have been sold.
9. Nissan X-Trail
Although the third generation Nissan X-Trail, in the opinion of car experts, is inferior to the previous ones both in terms of overall brutality and in terms of cross-country ability, still this car is still one of the best-selling crossovers in Russia. And the current year is no exception: in 2017, 13.3 thousand copies were sold, and sales increased by 8.6%.
8. KIA Sportage
A very popular model of urban crossover, produced already since 1993. Each new generation of the model decisively breaks ties with the previous one, appearing on a new platform and a new body. The current third generation is still popular: from January 2017, 14.9 thousand copies were sold, which amounted to a good increase compared to 2016 - 36.3%.
7. Volkswagen Tiguan
The compact crossover, built on the Volkswagen Golf platform, showed a frantic increase in sales in 2017 - by as much as 218%. This is the largest increase in sales among all cars participating in the ranking. In total, over the past months of 2017, 17.1 thousand copies of this model were sold. Involuntarily you ask yourself: what did Volkswagen do in 2016? After all, the first Volkswagen Tiguan was released exactly 10 years ago.
6. Volkswagen Polo
The Volkswagen Polo car has always been popular in Russia - in the spring of 2017, a 400,000th car was produced at the plant near Kaluga. And this model continues to be popular - compared with 2016, sales increased by 10.8% and, starting in January 2017, amounted to 18.5 thousand cars.
5. Toyota Camry
In the spring of 2017, Toyota Camry survived the next update, and in the future 2018, the manufacturer can launch a new, ninth generation of the popular and iconic family sedan in Russia on the Russian market. In the meantime, sales of this car are at the same level. Since 2017, 21.4 thousand copies have been sold. Sales increased slightly - only 1.3%.
4. Toyota RAV4
Four-wheel drive (depending on the configuration) compact crossover from Toyota takes fourth place in the list of the most popular cars with automatic transmission of 2017. Once Toyota RAV4 was positioned as a small car for young professionals and students who are inclined to spend time outdoors. However, since then its dimensions have grown significantly. And the car itself from a youth car turned into a workhorse, capable of bringing to work, going to the supermarket, and driving to the cottage. In 2017, 22.4 thousand copies were sold, which amounted to an increase of 7.9% compared to the previous year.
3. Hyundai Creta
The most popular crossover of the rating, Hyundai Creta, was positioned as a “for all” model, ranging from a balance of comfort / cross-country ability to a pleasant price. Such positioning has borne fruit, and Creta sales over the past month since the beginning of 2017 have grown 4.8 times, reaching the figure of 27.3 thousand cars, overtaking the previous crossover rating by almost 5 thousand copies.
2. Hyundai Solaris
In second place in the ranking of the best-selling cars with automatic transmission in Russia is another “brainchild” of Hyundai - the Solaris sedan (aka Hyundai Accent in Europe and Asia) with a six-speed automatic transmission. Since January 2017, 32.3 thousand copies have been sold. It is worth noting that Hyundai Solaris sales decreased by 18% compared to the previous year. Perhaps the reason was the popularity of the twin brother, KIA Rio. Or the general inconspicuous design of the "workhorse". However, next year, the updated Solaris will appear in the car market - one of the most anticipated cars of 2018 and brand sales may increase significantly.
1. KIA Rio
For many years now, the Korean company’s cars have been breaking sales records in the Russian Federation. So the rating of the most popular cars with automatic transmission in 2017 was no exception. On the first line is KIA Rio, a double of the second place in the rating, a front-wheel drive car of a small class with a sedan or hatchback body. The model successfully combines the advantages valued by a Russian car enthusiast - excellent design, comfortable interior, moderately fast ride at a relatively low price. Since the beginning of 2017, 44.7 thousand cars of this brand have already been sold.
