There are films that, when viewed, cause only one desire: so that what is happening on the screen quickly ends. The rating of precisely such boring films was compiled by NME magazine by order of Samsung, timed to coincide with its release for the premiere of the film "The Washing Machine". This masterpiece of cinema demonstrates a fascinating 66-minute wash cycle, shown in one continuous frame and accompanied by music by legendary composer and performer Michael Nyman.
Here's what the top 10 most boring and uninteresting movies of all time look like. To create it, leading film critics were interviewed, as well as 2,000 adult Britons.
10. Seven years in Tibet
The film opens the rating of the most uninteresting cinema, after which Brad Pitt and David Thewlis (leading actors) were banned from entering China.
The plot focuses on the German officer Heinrich Harrer, handsome, successful and famous. He has everything that a true Aryan needs, but Henry wants more. And so, having left his pregnant wife, Harrer and his friend set off to conquer the Nanga Parbat peak. Having overcome many trials, having experienced both hunger and cold, he gets to the city of Lhasa, where the young but wise Dalai Lama lives. Henry will spend seven years next to him.
Although the film is quite beautiful and will certainly be interesting to those who are interested in the life, life and history of the Tibetan people, it also has a number of shortcomings. Among them: a protracted beginning and a demonstration allegedly exhausted by long wanderings, being held captive and malnourished ... of the athletic body of Brad Pitt.
If you decide to watch, then get ready for a calm and peaceful melodrama about the life and wanderings of two people, without spectacular fights and vivid special effects.
9. Vanilla sky
David Ames has everything that the soul desires: beauty, wealth and a luxurious woman. However, David's sudden flare-up of passion for the beautiful Sophia caused jealousy of his girlfriend Julianne. She tried to commit suicide by car accident, and David, who was with her in the car, was injured in the face. After this, strange and inexplicable events begin to happen to him.
In this fantastic drama, many Hollywood stars of the first magnitude starred: Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Kurt Russell, Cameron Diaz. But meticulous viewers still found the picture boring and uninteresting, since flashbacks constantly appear, at first the timing is very long, and after the middle of the film, events begin to develop too quickly and incomprehensibly.
8. Australia
Before the outbreak of World War II, the English aristocrat, who inherited a huge ranch in Australia, came to his new possessions. She has a difficult task - to drive 1,500 cattle to the city of Darwin.
Despite the wonderful tandem of the actors - Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman played the main roles - many viewers booed the film. So, in one of the reviews it is said that the film is full of different genres, and they do not combine harmoniously, but are presented separately, in parts. "Australia" begins as a funny comedy, then comes a melodrama that gives way to adventure, and in the end the director recalls that he still has a bit of military battles in store. And all this is not too closely connected with each other.
Fans of love stories unfolding against the backdrop of world disasters, the movie is likely to interest. But do not expect anything special from him.
7. Artist
Seventh place in the ranking of the most boring cinema in the world went to a picture about the love of one of the best silent film actors George Valentine and statistician Peppy Miller, a rising star in sound cinema. And since the case, as planned by the scriptwriters, takes place in 1927, viewers will see black and white silent films about black and white silent films.
It is curious that at the Cannes Film Festival the prize for acting was awarded not only to the leading actor Jean Dujardin, but also to a dog named Uggi. This Jack Russell Terrier received a special prize Palm Dog, which is awarded annually for the best "dog" role in the movie.
6. Postman
The effect of this picture takes place in the post-apocalyptic future. The main character (played by Kevin Costner) does not want to fight for the local despot - General Betlehem. Having found a skeleton dressed in the form of a postman, the hero begins to deliver mail, bringing happiness and hope to people living separately in small settlements.
If you are waiting for an action movie, you will surely be disappointed. This is a drama that lasts almost three hours, and with its protractedness can cause yawning. Patriotism, which has got its teeth on edge, many, many shots with wild nature, American pathos - all this is in The Postman and does not make it any better.
5. Transformers
The first five of the most uninteresting films opens with the blockbuster of Michael Bay about the war of the robotic aliens of the Autobots and Decepticons. Spectacular, full of special effects film with a good selection of actors was criticized for the plot, full of cliches, too quickly changing frames in scenes of robot battles and a very boring beginning.
Modern cinema is very rich in computer graphics and special effects, so if you value films for entertainment, then do not waste time on Transformers, now there are more worthy candidates. For example, The Greatest Showman is one of the most anticipated films of the year.
4. Brokeback Mountain
A movie about two cowboys who fell in love with each other is not liked by many viewers, not only because of the rejection of homosexuality of the main characters, but also because of the boring plot, without a twinkle, without enthusiasm. The first five minutes of the picture in it is not pronounced a single word.
There are no spectacular fights, no skirmishes between cowboys and Indians, no brave sheriffs and treacherous villains. After all, the movie is not about that, the movie is about love. And the nature in it is beautiful.
3. Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace
How can a movie in the saga of a distant, distant galaxy be boring? It turns out, maybe. People unfamiliar with Star Wars did not like the fact that they were shown the “semi-tearful, half-tedious story” of a boy who survived the races.
The remaining characters, which should be bright and charismatic, speak more than act, the main villain remains somewhere behind the scenes, and the plot does not reveal anything special. Unless Ja Ja Binks makes the movie's atmosphere more fun. However, this clumsy eared creature just infuriates many viewers. By the way, according to one of the crazy fan theories, he is the lord of the Sith.
2. The Blair Witch: Coursework from the Other World
In second place on the list of the most tedious films is the "horror" filmed in a pseudo-documentary genre. Three students go to the damned forest in Maryland to make a documentary about a local legend - a terrible witch who kills those who invade her possessions. Once in the forest, young people move away from the intended road and find themselves face to face with otherworldly evil.
Due to the huge number of dialogs and the complete lack of action, not everyone can see this picture to the end.
Despite the fact that critics and viewers participating in the NME poll found this tape very boring, it ended up in the Guinness Book of Records thanks to a better ratio of costs to revenues. Every dollar that was invested in the creation of “Blair Witches” generated $ 10,931 in revenue.
1. Fifty Shades of Gray
If you can still argue with the choice of other participants in the selection of the most boring films, then this film is undoubtedly worthy to lead the hit parade of gloom.
The story of the modest student Anastache Steele and the rich handsome Christian Gray, whose tastes are “very specific”, raised more than half a billion dollars in film distribution and caused a stir in society. Some scolded her for promoting BDSM, others believed that the erotic scenes were prim and boring, while others did not like the completely implausible protagonists.
Of course, there are those who really liked Fifty Shades of Gray. But in many positive comments it is noted that the picture "something is missing."
The list of the most uninteresting films included Batman and Robin, Space Odyssey of 2001, Matrix: Revolution, Shougels and Cleopatra of 1963.
Of course, your opinion may be exactly the opposite than that of the viewers and critics surveyed by NME. And if you like many (or all) of the films listed in this anti-rating, that's fine. It would be too boring in the world if everyone had the same opinion on all disputed issues.
